    Palm Springs Tramway

Published: June 16, 2024 by Amanda Lynn

Have you ever wanted to be on top of the world, or at least feel like it. Well, I have and you can to with a trip to the Palm Springs Tramway, Known to the locals as the PS Tramway. Located down the 111 about 8 and a half miles from 111 exit on ton he 10 freeway is the road that takes you to the Palm Springs Tramway basestation and parking lot. The drive up to to the Valley Station takes about 10 minuets as you quickly clime to an altitude of 2,643 feet. From the Valley Station the tram ride takes another 10 minuets to where you arrive at the Mountain Station which sits at an elevation of 8,516 feet. From there you can walk around the Mountain Station and learn the history of the Tramway. Right off the Mountain Station you will find 2 balconies. On one side of the Mountain Station a balcony over looks the state park and its beautiful forest. On the opposite side of the Mountain Station is the other balcony that looks down on the Coachella Valley. This is where you can see the sweeping views of the low desert.

When you are finished with you stay at the Mountain Station you will board the tram to go back down to the Valley Station. This trip is different then the ride up. Shortly after you start the descent you can here the sounds of Neil Dimond singing Sweet Caroline in the tram car. The tram operator then announces if you know the words feel free to sing along. This prompts the tram riders to start singing and pretty soon you too will be singing along too.  After that song another one comes on and again the tram car riders sing alone.  By the end of the second song you are back to the Valley Station.

Depending on when you arrive back at the Valley Station  will dictate what you are going to do next in the Coachella Valley.

Check out my posts of both day and night activities in the Coachella Valley.
